This photo is my entry for this Photo Friday's topic The Beach. It was taken on the Central Oregon Coast.

Fall has finally arrived her in the Pacific Northwest.I love all the seasons for I think each season holds it's own beauty and treasures but Fall I think is my favorite. In the south where I lived most of my life fall started with the arrival of the yellow butterflies and the beginning of the South's second religion Football.I know some people reading this will laugh when I say this but on College Football Saturdays in the South the traffic is actually less and the crowds in Wal-Mart thinner.LOL.It is also when the air thins out from its usually soupy humid summer haze and you feel just the slightest nip in the air.

Here in the NorthWest it seems fall is heralded with the first rain of the season which came last weekend . It seems as though the Pacific has been pregant all summer withholding her lifegiving child the rain. The spiders increase in number and size(in time for Halloween it seems) and the flocks of local blackbirds return to subburban yards like street punks squabling and fighting over the tastiest morsel. The hay fields which are golden in summer are now turned over and tilled and replanted for the winter crop and lime appears on the fields like some freak snowstorm in September. In the heart of Oregon's wine country where I live the return of wine barrels on backs of trucks and the leaves beginning to turn yellow on the vines signals that Crush is about to take place and the vineyards will be abuzz with activity till all the grapes are harvested. In the clouds above will be the Canadian Geese returning to their winter home in the valley here and the fields and farms around my hourse will turn orange with the pumpkin harvest. I love the sight on fall mornings of the pumpkins in the fog or the glimpse of the gold leaves of the hardwood trees against the green of the Doug Firs and it all wreathed in a foggy mystical glow.

I love the fall foods too. The aroma and arrival of the Washington apples and cider at the fruit stands, the abundance of fresh nuts grown locally(walnuts and Hazelnuts). I love making soups and stews and roasts in the fall and the smell of pumpkin spice.

What are your falls like where you live? Your favorite fall memories? Please share them.

If you haven't already I want to invite you to join us on my other blog The Mermaids Bookshelf and participate in our online book club. The more the better.

Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all. ~Stanley Horowitz

Fall in Ontario has to be the best season. The trees are amazing, the farmers markets are full with delicious produce. The apple orchards are heavy with fruit, and the cool evenings make walks a pleasure.
Your beach photos are so tranquil. I do love the ocean.!
Thanks for your kind comments recently, they are appreciated.

This makes me miss visits to the Oregon coast. I love the central part the best. My best memory is being out in the year with my Dad on a cold October evening, raking leaves into the street then burning them. I love the smell of burning leaves.

Well, here the leaves are beginning to fall. I did an earlier post on fall favorites. My Football team has played 4 games. I have begun to decorate for fall. It is my favorite time of year here in the south.
