I highly recommend these two books and authors.

It was the first book by Joshilyn Jackson I had read but I really enjoyed it. She is a southern woman and captures the the southern character and soul so well. This book is at once funny and sad and leaves you guessing till the end but most of all it is about the love of family both biological and those we find on our own.The name of the book is Gods In Alabama.

A Change of Heart is just a fun , fast read. It is about a Quaker pastor and his community in Ohio. It is just one of those feel good reads that makes you want to live there.Gulley's writing makes me think so much of Jan Karon's Mitfor series.

The other two books I am about to read One is a biography of Ansel Adams. He was such a great photographer with such a deep love of nature that I think this will be an interesting read. The other book by Geraldine Brooks is historical in nature and with a little bit of mystery and suspense thrown in -People of the Book.

Reading this made me realize how local our culture is yet. The South and the practice of Quakerism are universes away from me. I am very provincial! I'll have to give these a try.

Hi Yolanda, thank you for the two book recommendations; they both sound like ones I'd enjoy and I'm going to look for them at the library. Stories of the south always draw me for some reason, and I'd be really interested in the Quaker one because I've got some Quaker ancestors and I know nothing about Quakers...and of course, Jan Karon is a favorite so...

Thanks!

The Ansel Adams book sounds interesting. Some of my favorite places in Northern California were photographed by him.

I'll have to check it out.

These books sound so good and they'll introduce me to new authors. I read a lot but tend to stay within the same circle of authors so this will be great. And just in time for spring. Or so I hope. Surely spring is coming soon, yes?

Putting them on my list .. I am such an avid reader .. right now I am reading Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City .. its a bit dated but in a charming way .. I am going to San Francisco in April and thought it would be fun to 'see' it again as it was when I was there the last time ..

Hi Yolanda, I met you on Shelfari. Just wanted to let you know that Joshilyn Jackson has a new book out The Girl Who Stopped Swimming. I went to her book signing here in Birmingham, AL last week. She is a really neat person. I look forward to reading the book. I have not read anything by her yet.

Did you happen to see the biography of Ansel Adams a couple of years back on PBS--American Masters, I think? I rushes out to get a book about him and think this might be the very same.
Thanks for sharing!
