I was moved by this book so much and the story of Sarah. It is one of those books that will stay with me a long time. It sticks with me like the Diary of Anne Frank did. I would give it 5 stars. It is at times heartbreaking and hard to read but touches on a subject matter that no one should ever forget.

I chose this book because I am very interested in the WWII era and how the men and women who lived then survived and thrived during this difficult period of our countries history.I had read many good things about this book and I picked up without a second thought when I saw it at the library.

Here is a description of the book SARAH'S KEY:

Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten year-old girl, is brutally arrested with her family by the French police in the Vel’ d’Hiv’ roundup, but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family's apartment, thinking that she will be back within a few hours.Paris, May 2002: On Vel’ d’Hiv’s 60th anniversary, journalist Julia Jarmond is asked to write an article about this black day in France's past. Through her contemporary investigation, she stumbles onto a trail of long-hidden family secrets that connect her to Sarah. Julia finds herself compelled to retrace the girl's ordeal, from that terrible term in the Vel d'Hiv', to the camps, and beyond. As she probes into Sarah's past, she begins to question her own place in France, and to reevaluate her marriage and her life. Tatiana de Rosnay offers us a brilliantly subtle, compelling portrait of France under occupation and reveals the taboos and silence that surround this painful episode.

Hi,
It was good to see your name come up in my comments. Yes, I like being back in Alabama and close to Daughter and her two children. I had bonded early with these two grands when before moving to Memphis. It had been hard being away from them. Now, I get to be involved in their school activites and they can visit me at my house anytime.
I like the sound of this book. You always have good recommendations. I'll see if I can find it at Bookins.
Wonder Boy recently read Anne Frank in school. His teacher is of German discent. He had a sleepover for the children at his home. They watched the movie from the book and ate German food.
I realized that I had never read the book so I am borrowing his copy.

This book looks like a good read. I have read a lot of books about WWII (having been a US History teacher at one time), so I'll look for this one and put it on my list. Thanks for the recommendation.

I enjoy reading your reviews of books. Have you read The Poison Wood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver?
It's an amazing read about an American Family trying to convert the Congolese without understanding the culture. I'm sure you would enjoy it.
