I love Mary Oliver and this is a favorite. Hope everyone is having a good week and all of you on the east coast are staying warm and safe. This is my busy work week with 3 12 hour shifts so not much time for blogging this week.
Morning
Mary Oliver
Salt shining behind its glass cylinder.
Milk in a blue bowl. The yellow linoleum.
The cat stretching her black body from the pillow.
The way she makes her curvaceous response to the small, kind gesture.
Then laps the bowl clean.
Then wants to go out into the world
where she leaps lightly and for no apparent reason across the lawn,
then sits, perfectly still, in the grass.
I watch her a little while, thinking:
what more could I do with wild words?
I stand in the cold kitchen, bowing down to her.
I stand in the cold kitchen, everything wonderful around me.

Beautiful - and love that image...
Beautiful - and love that image...
Beautiful thoughts.
Such an evocative piece of writing - thanks for sharing this poet with us. I had not read any of her work prior to this :)
I hope the busy schedule of your week passes quickly and without incident.
I remember those three twelves in a row too well... all you CAN do is sleep, eat, and work. :c) Hope it is a good week my friend.
I love love Mary Oliver.
perfect poem , and sentiment.
peace as you get through the long shifts.
So pretty!
I'm a cat person so of course I loved this....
She is one of my favorites, too. Thanks for posting this.
Well, I do love the photograph! Absolutely gorgeous.
I've never understood the 12 hour shift application in the healthcare field. It seems counter productive, somehow, but I'm no expert.
beautiful shot - hope you get some rest over this tough week
She is pure genius, and that is a gem.
Ah, Mary Oliver...HUGE inspiration! I've long loved her way of looking at the world, looking at expression & creativity. I especially love this line: "what more could I do with wild words?" Hoping very much you find some peace & ease during your long work hours. I, too, have never understood why our health care professionals must work soooo long hours. It just seems so counter intuitive & counter productive. Rest when you can... Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
I love that poem. I even understood it:) Did you take that photo? Incredible.
Love Mary Oliver... love this poem.
