A Hidden Gem and Some Tunes

You might want to mute the music player at the bottom of the page while you listen to her music so it won't compete with each other.

I have always loved music since I was a little girl and my dad put me up on a table at a local cafe to sing along with the jukebox when I was about three. In the south where I grew up music is such a part of the culture and life of this region and so you can't grow up there and not be influenced by it.

I first heard the singer in this You Tube video many years ago and have loved her music and her soulful voice ever since. I encourage you to check out our website Ashley Cleveland and her music. She so deserves the Grammy she received. She focuses mainly on Christian music but check out her video on You Tube of Gimme Shelter by The Stones. She also has a inspirational story to tell of beating a terrible addiction.

This is on my Playlist of my I Pod right now. I like to see what other people are listening to on their playlists as I always find good music there.

1. All My Tears-Ashley Clevland and Jars of Clay
2.Cactus in a Coffee Can- Melanie Canon
3.Time After Time-Sarah McLachlan and Cyndi Lauper
4.Light on-David Cook
5.Songbird-Eva Cassidy
6.Simple Gifts-Yo Yo Ma and Alison Krauss
7.Hard Sun-Eddie Veter
8.Put Your Records On-Corine Bailey Rae
9.Better Days-The Goo Goo Dolls

We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same.
— Anne Frank

Hope you enjoy the list and find some new music you like.

I've never heard of her! We have several in common. But I have way too many songs on my Ipod. I love Nickleback and Bowling for Soup.

I'll have to check out her website to see her cover of Gimme Shelter.

I have three from your list: #3 (absolutely love it and the entire Lauper CD it's on); #5 (she was so special); and #6 (perfection)

I'll have fun checking out some of the others.
Have a great week!

Yep, I like to find out what other folks are listening to, as well. I bought Yo Yo Ma's Christmas album this year, and I think my son was getting sick of hearing it. Lenny Kravitz rocks, doesn't he?! I've been listening to blues (Keb Mo is good, plus I love so many of the classics.)

This is the first I have heard of her. I love her voice. I will have to check out some more of her music. Thanks for the heads up.

The only thing that used to quiet my barking dog was Lenny Kravitz's rendition of "American Woman." I kid you not!

I like how music of all genres can shape our day ...
If I'm reading or gardening I prefer classical, housework to pop rock, softer lyrical music for when I want to sit and create or just sit*!*

Hi Yolanda,
Thanks for dropping by my blog. It is funny, you are on the North West Coast, where I am from and I am in MS where you are from! Crazy huh?! You want to know something crazier? I know Ashley's sister Jenni. One of the sweetest Christian ladies you will ever meet! It has been years since I have seen her. We moved from N.CA in 2000.
The things that you treasure about the south (food wise) are all the wonders I am coming into contact with for the first time. As a matter of fact, tonight my husband and I are going to try to catch fireflies! I have never done that before. I have a magnolia sitting here on my desk, that was picked from my yard. Nuts huh?!
Drop by again. I would love to hear where you were from. :o)
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Ps. I used Hwy 101 my whole life!!
