Linky Love and A Funny

Things I learned being from Mississippi and Tennesse for 41 years of my life

1. A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.
2. There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in Mississippi ..
3. There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 of them live in Mississippi ..
4. If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.
5. 'Onced' and 'Twiced' are words.
6. It is not a shopping cart, it's a buggy.
7. 'Jaw-P?' means, 'Did y'all go to the bathroom?
8. People actually grow and eat okra.
9. 'Fixinto' is one word.
10. There is no such thing as 'lunch.' There is only dinner and then there is supper.
11. Iced tea is appropriate for all meals, and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar.
12. Backwards and forwards means, 'I know everything about you.'
13. The word 'jeet' is actually a phrase meaning, 'Did you eat ?'
14. You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.
15. You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH EM.
16. You measure distance in minutes.
17. You switch from heat to A/C in the same day.
18. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.
19. You know what a 'DAWG' is.
20. You carry jumper cables in your car --- for your OWN car.
21. You only own five spices: salt, pepper, Texas Pete, Tabasco and Ketchup.
22. The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and high school football.
23. You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.
24. You find 100 degrees Fahrenheit 'a bit warm.'
25. You know all four seasons: Almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.
26. Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite past time known as'goin' Wal-Martin' or 'off to Wally World.'
27. You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good stew weather.
28. Fried catfish is the other white meat.
29. We don't need no dang driver's ed. If our mama says we can drive, we can drive, dag-nabbit
.

I recieved this in an email from a friend and thought it was funny. Oddly enough a lot of these things are true.

Here are some things that are inpiring to me right now:

Life as G-Greta is one of my favorites from way back I agree with her perspective on life and she inspires me.

Relyn-I enjoy going here because she feels like and old friend. She is very open and caring.

Loose Lemons-I like this blog because she is funny and has the same quirky since of humor I do.

Anna Maria Horner-She is a wonderful crafter with lots of neat ideas.

Granny Smith-She is an actual granny who blogs.

Salem Daily Photo-If you want to see how beautiful where I live is go here -Please see the aerial view of the Valley where I live.

Some people, no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty—they merely move it from their faces into their hearts.

The quote reflects my feeling for all of you who visit here.

THanks, Y - you made me laugh with your "list." I lived in No Carolina for four years and much of your list was true for that state, too!
And thanks for sharing some of your fave links!

I ABSOLUTELY loved this post my friend :)

It's next in my series of 1,000 posts to read before you die.

Fabulously funny. I needed to laugh today.

My parents lived in three southern states during my father's last few years of transferring around for work and they quickly had to learn that new language spoken in The South. Although my mom just couldn't bring herself to say 'carry you to the airport.'

LOVE this list! I think I learned it all from my "hick" (and beloved) family in the boot heel of SE Missouri. :D

Hello Yolanda!! It is wonderful that you found my blog because I have a feeling of finding a kindred spirit! That's because I've been reading back a few months into your life and find common threads...living in New Albany and you KNOWING where I am (!), me knowing and understanding a love for the Pacific Coast along Oregon from family vacations...loving books (Yes, the smell of them too LOL)..understanding our footprint upon the earth...

And my mother gave me the Simple Abundance book about 5 years ago and I have turned to it again and again for inspiration. It's been packed for awhile, so thank you for reminding of it. Somewhere in a back post you spoke about Gratitude and how it helps us achieve a happier outlook. True.

So, I am grateful to have found you!

Oh, and the list of Mississippi realities is sooooo good! I found it on another blog and emailed it to my friends back in AZ so they would understand the funny side of what goes on here!

Until next time...Peace be with you.

I love your list! Thanks for stopping by, and a very happy, contented and simplified New Year to you too.

Let each day take care of itself and life will fall into place all by itself. A little help now and again won't hurt, but don't frazzle yourself - you'll go crazy.

Many (((hugs))) to you,
Yvette

This is really funny and much of it applies to the back woods of Oregon where I grew up as well, far from Mississippi. Maybe applies to country folk all over the world!
Happy happy 2009, my friend!

Too funny, and so true. I grew up in rural NC and lived in SC for seven years, so I know many of those expressions all too well. I'm sometimes still "fixinto," and my dad gets really confused when I mention dinner. He considers that "lunch," and supper is dinner.

Hahahahaha...sounds like South Carolina...only I would add that The State newspaper has a whole section for Gamecock or the arch nemesis, Clemson football. I was pleasantly surprised to see my blog named on this post and I will have to return the compliment!!!
I am totally enjoying my visits here!

too funny! This could be South Carolina although I would have to add that our newspaper is obsessed and devotes whole sections to Gamecock/Tiger football (college leagues)
I was pleasantly surprised to see my blog name in your post. Thanks for the mention. I look forward to visiting regularly in 2009!

Yolanda,Hope you have a very Happy New Year. I love the list and they are very close to ours in Louisiana---will have to hunt for mine---craft room is a mess. Excuse the language, but we used to be called "coonasses", but they passed a law and we can no longer use that term. We weren't offended. If anyone comes to south Louisiana and says they didn't "Pass a good time", there is something wrong with them. Such a funny list. One of the funniest I remember when I moved to New Orleans was "Makin groceries" and could never get used to that---I was told we bought groceries. Have a great year and I look forward to reading more, even though I don't post as much as I should. Hugs, Pat

I love 'southern-isms'. My maternal grandparents were Southern, and they made sure I was raised right... ;)

Hi! I just found your blog because you commented on mine! Very nice piano music for background. And as I was reading down your entries I had to laugh out loud at this one. I spent a winter in Mobile, Alabama about 4 years ago,... oh yes, a lot of that is so true! I'll check back again!
