I just finished this book and really liked it. It is set in the 60's in the south and presents the Civil Rights era from the the perspective of the maids/The Help in Jackson,MS. It is written by a woman from Jackson MS who grew up with a maid.

Although it is written in a place I grew up namely( MS )I didn't grow up this way. My family were factory workers and Maids their selves so I can more identify with The Help in this story than I can the rich people. My grandparents were poor sharecroppers who picked cotton right along with the African Americans.

Here is a review from Good Reads regarding this book The Help by Kathryn Stockett

More to come the middle of the week.

I will have to have a look at this book. You know, my parents grew up working class in a really rich town in Connecticut. They know the deal, too. And, boy oh boy, do they know how to laugh their way through rich people's nonsense.

Sounds interesting. So does your own family history, though.
