I have always been fascinated with the WWII era and I am always interested in books set during the time period. I think my fascination with this subject matter started when I read The Diary of Anne Frank. She and I both share the same Birthday.
I found this book at my local used book store and bought it not knowing what to expect but it was good and I finished it in just two days. The book deals with a little known segment of history in which Hitler set up maternity homes in Germany and the countries he occupied to produce his master race.
The main character in this book is a Jew who we follow as she poses as her cousin who was pregnant by a German officer in one of these homes. Cyrla is a strong character and through her eyes we see this little know segment of history from a personal point of view.
I would rate this as 4 stars and highly recommend it.
In the process of reading this I found a book a patient had left at work about Parkinson's Disease and was looking through it and it said that Hitler before his death is thought to have had this disease.
I am trying to decide which way to take this blog. Do I continue it and share day to day tidbits of life or do I primarily use it to review books with some day to day things thrown in,along with some introspection , recipes and crafts. What do you all think I would love to hear your opinion.
Here's Hoping you Have a Wonderful Weekend.
I hope the Colts win tommorrow but I also like the Saints too.

A little bit of this and that works for me. You never know whata gem you may drop that will lead someone else to something of interest that they might not have found.

I think you have to let your readers guide you a bit. Do you get more views and comments on certain topics. I'm still so new at this, but I found that when I joined into a few (very few) events in Blogland and linked my blog to the event, more people found my blog.

I like the back and forth with my readers...so, I'm happy when people follow and comment. If you are doing it more for yourself as a "journal" type blog...you might go an entirely different direction.

The book sounds good.

I will give it a try on your recommendation. That era fascinates me, too.

did you read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.. it's about WWII (a fictional back story). It's really quite good.

Cheers :)

I like to hear about your life as well as your ideas about books. I know we all have different ideas about the types of books we read, but I am always interested to hear about new books, authors, ideas. I say write about what you want. The readers will respond. I want the Colts to win because I think the Saints played dirty against Minnesota.

My vote is to mix it up! My vote is whatever make You happy...it is your blog! I enjoy reading about your book reads, but also enjoy your thoughts...think your blog is great now!

I've been having the same thoughts about my blog lately and would really like to figure out how to put tabs on it so I could add one for books, pictures, etc. Looked it up but it seemed to be a little over my head, or maybe I was just too lazy to mess with it at the time!

I seem to go through this periodically--what is my blog? What do I want to do/say with it? I'd vote for hodge podge--a little bit of this, a little bit of that.

I like it mixed up :) however you do have to go in the direction that interests you most...I have been giving a great deal of thought to this issue myself i.e. is it necessary to have a specific theme for a blog etc.

Have a lovely day my friend! and did I thank you for the birthday card? if not THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Hi Yolanda...I add my voice to those who recommend mixing it up....a bit of this and a bit of that, however it comes to you.

This book sounds very interesting...I think I'd enjoy reading it. Thanks for the review!

This book does sound really good, Yolanda. I have a fascination with that time period too and in fact just finished a Danielle Steel book called "Echoes" about the German Occupation. I haven't read Danielle Steele in years but a friend recommened it awhile back and it was pretty good. Not spectacular at all. I'm adding yours to my list of to be reads. I just watched a documentary that I got on Netflix called "Into the Arms of Strangers" about the Kindertransport of Jewish children out of Germany and into Britain. It was really good. I think you'd enjoy it. Heartbreaking, but good.

As for your blog, my vote is to write about whatever you feel like. Book reviews, tidbits, parts of your life. Whatever you feel like sharing at the time. This is your piece of cyberspace and you should kick off your shoes and feel at home here. I love your blog, I know I don't comment often enough, but I am here and I do love to read what you write.
xoxo
