Today marks the beginning of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. This month holds a special place in my heart because of my Mother who lost her battle to this disease almost 6 years ago. This photo is from lynnieb over at Flickr. It showcases so well the truth of this disease which is that One in Seven will be diagnosed with this disease this year and many more will die from it.
Throughout this month I am hoping to focus on info I find about this disease and my families struggles with it and other brave individuals fighting the battle with it .
Please get your mamograms if you are a lady and do your Breast Self Exams . These two things save more lives than anything else and Men remind and encourage the women in your lives to do the same.
One of my goals in the next year is to walk in the Race for the Cure next year and do the Avon 3-day on the 8 th anniversary of my mothers homegoing in 2009.
Please support this cause and all those who struggle with it.

Thank you for this post! It is so real. My homemakers club in Alabama does it's roll call with the question, have you done your breast, self exam? Now that I am unable to attend, I miss being accountable to someone else.
And in reality, men also get breast cancer, just not as often I suppose.

I am sorry to hear about your mother losing her fight but she would be proud of you for continuing the fight.
Thank you Yolanda. We were more fortunate in our family. Mom survived her breast cancer and is celebrating her tenth year of being cancer free. All the women in my family get our mammograms each year... minr is scheduled in a few weeks. Keeping the memory of your mother alive for a good cause is heartwarming.

PS: Thank you for your breast cancer tribute post. My MIL lost her battle to breast cancer nearly six years ago. We miss her so much!
Yolanda, thanks for the reminder. I've been putting off my annual health check but this is a good kick to go ahead and book it.
I'm sorry to hear about your mother's death from this horrible disease.
Is this why I'm seeing so many "pink" products out there right now? I think it's great! :)
I had a baseline mamogram done just a few months ago (thankfully all was well) and I try to do routine self-exams as well.

You are going to do the 3-day!!! That's awesome. I did it in 2001 and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life!
